"Golden rule" of nourishing the kidney in Traditional Chinese medicine Ⅲ

Kidney diseases, say swelling caused by both primary and secondary diseases have own term in TCM, the name given by the ancestors, wind edema. We all know many kidney diseases, according to western medicine acute nephritis is caused by upper respiratory infection. In TCM, it is caused by external infection, namely wind which leads to edema, so it is called wind edema. Wind leads to edema. Surely, there are other names according to severity.
Look at the word “wind”, we prevent wind first, be careful not to catch a cold. Many kids and adults catch colds of upper respiratory infection or quinsy repeatedly, but they don’t take it seriously or treat it in the right way, when they catch a cold, they wear more clothes, the more clothes they wear, the severer internal heat they suffer, the more likely they catch a cold, it is a wrong way. As time goes by, the kidney will be damaged easily. Western medicine holds that upper respiratory tract causes cold, tract includes nose, pharynx and throat, it causes cold. According to TCM, it will be together finally, one will catch a cold if his whole skin takes cold, not just upper respiratory tract. At last, it will affect upper respiratory tract and lung. TCM holds that lung governs skin and hair, so it will be together finally. The theory system are different, but clinically, this way or this theory is useful.
So we have to prevent it first. To treat it, make the pathogens return to where it comes from. Dispel wind evil, in TCM, it is called relieving exterior syndrome. The first common way is relieving exterior syndrome. Sometimes when we catch a cold, sneezing, having a running nose, and fearing wind and cold, headache, are all typical exterior syndrome. We may overlook some exterior syndrome. Generally, human body surface and respiratory system belong to exterior syndrome, as TCM saying, lung governs skin and hair, so problems of skin and hair and respiratory system may be exterior syndrome.
