What is Qigong therapy?
Qigong is a traditional method of Chinese people to keep in good health and ward off diseases. Qigong originated in China and began to spread since remote ages. In ancient times, Qigong comprised exercises of breathing, Qi circulating, guiding and pulling, mediation, etc. The word “Qigong” first appeared in the book “Ling Jian Zi”written by Xu Xun, a taoist priest, from the Jin Dynasty, but it didn’t spread widely for a long time. Until the early 1950s, the founder of Qigong therapy, Mr Liu Guizhen applied Qigong treatment represented by the internal nourishing exercise to clinic practices, and obtained remarkable curative effect. Until then the word “Qigong” was popularized.
Qigong is characterized by conscious combined exercises of mind, body and Qi through the subjective efforts. By coordinating breath, body and mind, the practitioner can keep fit, prevent and cure diseases, and live a longer life. Besides its health care effect, Qigong also has therapeutic effect. As a practical and effective health-preventing method, Qigong is becoming increasingly popular around world. As a natural therapy, Qigong has a wider and wider influence on the lives of foreigners.
