Smoke and Lung Cancer
In a long and slow process, smoking will damage bronchial epithelium. As we all know, human body can heal itself, in the process, when bronchial epithelium is damaged and healed repeatedly, cytometaplasia is caused, which may lead to canceration. Shigao(gypsum) is included, it is a sweet-cold herb, and can clear and discharge lung heat. The patents who smoked a long time suffered deficiency of lung Yin and internal heat due to Yin deficiency, so Shigao(gypsum) is added to clear and discharge lung heat. Another herb is Renshen(Ginseng) which can reinforce earth to generate metal, Gancao( Radix liquiritiae) is used to moderate the property of other herbs. This famous prescription composed of herbs is called Qi Zao Jiu Fei Tang (Decoction of Elimination Dryness and Rescuing the Lungs). It can nourish Yin to moisten dryness and clear lung heat caused by dryness pathogen.
